Short Catch Overshot

Driscoil Equipment supplies Short Catch Overshots for specialized downhole fishing operations where the exposed end of the fish is too short for engagement by a conventional overshot. The tool provides external engagement and positive gripping of tubular fish such as drill pipe, tubing, sucker rods and subs.

A Short Catch Overshot is specifically designed so the basket grapple can occupy a lower position in the bowl, allowing it to engage a fish with very little exposed length.

Operating Principle

The overshot is made up on the fishing string and lowered over the fish. The tool is rotated to the right while being gradually lowered, allowing the fish to enter the expandable basket grapple. Once the grapple has engaged the fish, right-hand torque is released and upward pull is applied to secure the catch.
